Monthly News Reel: What You Missed This July in the Holiday Park & Resort World…

Join us for our very first monthly news reel! Find out all the news stories you missed this July, straight from the Holiday Park and Resort sector.

July is always a big month in the world of Holiday Parks and Resorts. As holidaymakers trickle away from their homes, relishing in the chance to enjoy a well-deserved break, holiday park owners ready themselves for the influx.

The British summers are getting hotter and hotter, which is why more and more families are choosing to remain in the UK for their summer breaks. In fact, around 50 percent of Brits are “staycation”-ing this summer, helping to boost our economy by millions. Not only is this cheaper and more practical, especially for families with young children, but it allows us to experience the beauty, right on our doorstep.

With this popularity has come a growth in UK holiday park goers, so how has the industry moved with these changes?

Newspapers stacked in piles

Lake District Deal

At the start of the month, Ullswater Heights, a new luxury hospitality site in the Lake District, was opened up to visitors. Leisure Resorts, the five-star resort operator, invested £20 million in the project, with high-end holidays in mind.

Online images give us all the suburban American feels, with little villages of houses lined up next to a winding road. Inside the homely cabins, expect a modern but rustic feel, designed for families, couples, and even those travelling with dogs. A sustainable wooden playground provides a great play area for young children, and the classy hot tubs and fire-pits create a luxury feel for the grown-ups.

Alongside these cabins is also a glamping site, unlike what you may be used to. Instead of the expected teepee style tents, Leisure Resorts have created a collection of tents made in a safari-style. Inside, they follow a similar decor to that of the cabins - modern and rustic, with a bit more wood, and animal prints galore. Available in one or two storeys, this would certainly be an adventure for anyone.

A Luxury Water Park For The Big Kids

The term “water park” usually brings to mind images of screaming children, with no chance of relaxation. At the Vidanta leisure resort, in Mexico, this idea has been completely blown out of the water, with their Jungala aqua experience. Providing a luxury getaway with an exotic jungle theme, expect water slides, spa days, VIP cabanas, and tranquil pools, for the perfect mix of adult meets kid.

Haven Holiday in Hafan y Môr

Hafan y Môr, near Pwllheli, in Wales, has been home to a family holiday park since 1999. However, this week, the Haven Holidays camp is set to open their new Dragon Lakes Adventure Village! Perfect for young children, this will be a fantastic chance to have some fun with the kids, helping them to learn more about the world around them.

This also comes alongside the opening of numerous other attractions, for parents and kids alike. With their new Coast House bar and grill, HMS Glendower Pub, and a new Pizza Deck coming soon, their food and drink sector is certainly heating up. We can also expect the Oodles amusement centre to open soon but, meanwhile, enjoying the new cakery should keep the kids occupied.

Carleon’s Cancellation

In less successful news, plans to build a 24-pod holiday park, with timber lodges for larger parties, in a Carleon quarry have been deferred. This comes after concerns were voiced over the sites regulations, mainly the issue of air quality in the area.

Planning officers claimed that this wouldn’t be an issue, as the air quality would be better than it is at the current state. That said, objectors believe these officers have overstated the benefits that the site will invoke. They argue that, with current environmental issues being tackled, the holiday park may hinder their plight.

But, with the current lack of holiday sites in the area, could the plans still go ahead?

Going Green in the Cotswolds

With the Attenborough affect in full force, Ranch Caravan Park in the Cotswolds has pledged to go green. By warming their hot water and heating facilities via the sun, even on overcast days, the park is drastically reducing its carbon footprint. We, at the Holiday Park and Resort Innovation Show, tip our hats to them.

Cromwell Leisure Park Purchased by Cambridgeshire County Council

Cromwell Leisure Park, a caravaner spot in Wisbech, has been purchased by Cambridgeshire County Council, for £6.9 million. Already consisting of an eight-screen cinema, and a number of restaurants, plans look to expand what’s already there. They’re hoping to introduce a 160-space car park, focusing on accessibility.

They also seem to favour employability, too. After noting the importance of investing in projects that will boost employment rates, and local economies, this seems like a good place to start.
