The Farm Business Innovation Show 2019 has been and gone, but our work doesn’t stop there. Plans for the 2020 exhibition are well underway, and our monthly news is just one part of our big picture to help diversifying farmers.
This month, we’re talking glamping and farm cafes. Take a look at these small ways in which landowners have diversified, and gain inspiration from their successes, right here...
Get Glamping
Every month, we see a new development in the wonderful world of glamping, which just goes to show it’s a really popular diversification option. Even Glastonbury 2020 are taking this idea on board, and organisers have set up a glamping option for festival-goers. Glamping really is the new camping, so this is a great option for anyone who loves the festival life, but not bog-standard camping.
The Friends, a conservation charity in the Loch Lomondside area, have encouraged plans for new glamping pods and a car park to be put in place. Their eco-tourism initiative supports the introduction of glamping facilities, so that more people can connect with national parks. This way, they can work to encourage sustainability across Scotland and, as advocates of sustainable initiatives, we’re here for it!
Another set of plans for a glamping site in the UK have been submitted. The Derbyshire youth centre is hoping to expand, and are planning to introduce new glamping pods and log cabins, as well as an events building for larger get togethers. With hopes to bring the wider community together through these changes, plans have been submitted, and are awaiting approval.
Finally, New House Farm in Llangwm, South Wales, are planning on setting up their very own glamping site, with a unique twist. By using an American double-decker bus, and other restored vehicles, they’re on the way to setting up a night to remember for their glamping guests!
Farm Cafe Inspiration
One of the most common ways that farmers and landowners like to diversify their land is through setting up an on-site cafe. This is a great way to make use of the fresh produce that emerges from the farm. It’s also both a diversification choice of its own, or one that can accompany almost any other project - people need food, after all!
Along this vein, the National Trust has announced that they’re launching vegan cream teas at their residencies across the country. So, not only are they keeping up with the diversification trend, they’re also on board with the vegan trend too!
A Sustainable Dairy Farm
The dairy industry is a huge user of plastic bottles, but Bryce Cunningham, an Ayrshire farmer, wants to change this. He managed to raise £10,000 from a crowdfunding campaign, replacing his single-use plastic cartons with a whopping 32,000 glass bottles! With the added addition of a drawing of the famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns, on the bottles, this is a personalised collection of washable, sustainable solutions.
