Staycation Vacation?

We’re now living ‘Brexit Britain’ … and with this historic decision, the ‘staycation holiday’ is booming!

Uncertainty as to the value of the pound; a reluctance to book ahead; feeling patriotic … there’s any number of reasons as to why holidaying in the UK has been popular this year and looks set to continue.

Cornwall, London and the Lake District are predicted to be the top three ‘staycation’ destinations this year.(1)

Yet with tourist hot spots dotted all over the country, it’s never been a better time to think holiday, think Wigwam®.

Wigwam® Holidays  http://www.wigwamholidays.com/bookonline, the national glamping accommodation provider, has experienced an increase in online bookings as people ‘go for the glamp’ and enjoy ‘a great holiday in the great outdoors’!

And if you’re a land owner or farmer and want to get some of the glamping action, then come and see us at the Farm Business Innovation Show on 9th and 10th November at Stand 310 in Hall 9 at Birmingham’s NEC.

However, it could be argued that this ’staycation’ trend is nothing new, with a recent Visit England survey indicating the Yorkshire Coast was second only to London in terms of trips away.  From 2013 to 2015, there were an average of 1.4m trips per year to this stunning part of Yorkshire.(2)

And with media reporting the 'staycation' boom worth £1.4 billion this year alone, what are you waiting for?

The Tourism Alliance has indicated that extra takings was set to reach £2.4 billion this year, with £725 million being spent across Britain’s tourist destinations. As of August this year, Britons taking a UK Holiday is up by 17% on 2015 so far.(3)

So let’s consider some of the positives of taking a staycation, whether glamping, camping or staying in a quaint cottage …

• No queues at the airport waiting for your overseas flight

• No weight restrictions on your holiday luggage

• No need to visit the Bureau de Change

• Passport expired? No problem!

• No need for expensive inoculations

• You can stop off at different places on your journey to and from your holiday destination, effectively adding an extra two ‘days’ to your break

• While the weather can be varied, at least you can prepare for it!

• Countless attractions are prepared for the autumn and winter, be it an autumn-themed event, Bonfire Night, a Christmas extravaganza or a New Year celebration – the choice is huge

• By staying in the UK, you contribute to the local and national economy. The tourism industry employs around 3m people nationwide

• There’s lots of FREE (as well as pay-per-entry) attractions in most parts of the UK
