Blackpool Holiday Village expansion plans approved

Bourne Leisure receive planning approval for 31 new caravans and associated roads & landscaping at their Marton Mere holiday park in Blackpool. 

The planning committee at Blackpool Council finally approved the scheme after Bourne Leisure reassured them there would be no risk of flooding at the site. The redevelopment will be adjoined to the current holiday village, west from the existing site. 

Bourne Leisure had previously applied to extend their static caravan capacity by adding 55 new builds, but the public’s negative reaction prevented the development.

Although the new development will expand upon an area of open land deemed important to the community, the enhancements planned for the remaining plains are designed to make up for the loss. The biodiversity of the area will improve thanks to the vegetation added, and the swathe connecting the site to Marton Mere will be left untouched.

Residents in the area were concerned about the loss of habitat and noise pollution generated by this project, yet the development’s enhancement of the area’s tourism offer and conservation efforts won over the planning officers.

Regarding the Bourne Leisure’s application, the planning committee said: “In this case the economic and social benefits of the proposal, together with the mitigating environmental benefits mean that on balance approval is recommended.”
