Cantref Farm - Timberplay Case Study

A family run adventure farm in the beautiful Brecon Beacons in Wales, Cantref started as a working farm and riding centre sixty years ago.

Over the years they have grown and developed with the addition of many new attractions and in 2016 they decided to boost the play value of the site significantly with the addition of sand and water play.

A water pump combined with channels, dams and a waterwheel, enables children to source their own water and control its path through their own configuration. A Building Site, with Rope Bridge, inspires children to work together to shovel and transport sand to the top of the platform, before passing it down pipes or channels. The equipment provides unlimited play opportunities for younger children, who develop their social and negotiation skills to work together.

Owner at Cantref, Gwen Evans comments:-

“At Cantref Adventure Farm, play is an important ethos in our attraction.  We were looking to improve our outdoor play experience and chose Timberplay because of their great range of durable high quality products.  They came up with the perfect design for the space and budget we had available.  Our new Sand and Water Play area has been open since Easter and has been a huge hit with our customers and helped to increase our dwell time. We would not hesitate to use Timberplay again and hope to expand on our new play area as our visitor numbers grow in the future.”

Their on-going investment of the development of the site led to Cantref Adventure Farm being awarded the best UK National Farm Attraction 2016 for under 75,000 visitors in the National Farm Attraction (NFAN) Awards.
