£10M Mountain Bike Park Plans For Scotland Revealed

A significant investment and development in a site near Aberdeen, Scotland, looks set to bring mountain biking and adventure to the area!

Belinda Miller, head of economic development at Aberdeenshire Council, said: "This is an exciting and innovative proposal from Netco and one that has the potential to put this part of Scotland on the map for family-friendly adventure sports facilities.

"Our regional economic strategy is founded on diversification and a mountain bike and snowsports centre would certainly help us towards this."

The new development could provide up to 70 new jobs with additional facilities including glamping accommodation, a restaurant and environmentally friendly “Hub”, education, corporate meeting rooms, changing rooms, equipment rentals and wellbeing centre.

The mountain bikes trails would cover 28 miles and include features such as cross-country singletracks, downhill runs, flow trails, natural enduro trails and a pump track. The developers are also looking at ziplining, orienteering, toboggan runs, paths for runners, forest schools and tubing as potential additional adventure attractions for the site.

Graeme McLean, project manager at Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS), part of Scottish Cycling, said: "The north-east is Scotland’s final geographical gap in large mountain biking amenities. These exciting and ambitious proposals would propel the region towards becoming one of the UK's leading mountain bike destinations”

Public consultants are taking place soon with a planning application the being formally submitted with Aberdeenshire Council, the project will be funded via public and private funding.
