The Sign Maker

Huge variety of signs made by craftsmen to suit all budgets.

The carpenters, stonemasons and other craftsmen make signs using a whole variety of different processes. These include woodworking, engraving, casting, printing, sand-blasting, chemical etching, anoprinting, spray painting, hand painting and vinyl application. Listed below are some of the materials we use.

At our rural workshops in Devon we have a barn full of racks of timber of varying thickness and types. Here we create anything from small wooden plaques to massive wood business signage.

In the stone yard, we have tons of slate in various thicknesses and other stone including various granites, marble, limestone and Purbeck Stone. This stone is cut, engraved and lettering painted to suit your requirements.

For engraved plaques, one tends to think of brass. However, in our engraving workshops, we have a large range of other materials including Corian which is perfect for stylish maintenance free plaques.

Traditional cast bronze is timeless - it is ideal for important plaques such as the opening of a new facility. Craftsmen use traditional methods for casting the bronze plaques and ensure that every handmade sign or plaque leaving the foundry is perfect.

After years of vinyl signage dominating the market, traditional painted signs are making a come-back. They do however have advantages over the old painted signs. The paint is a very hard wearing polyurethane paint which is mixed with a hardener before spraying. Our huge range of colours includes many of the fashionable Farrow and Ball colours.

Vinyl signage is of course still very important. We use both long-lasting cut vinyl, along with full colour printed vinyl. All our printed vinyl is laminated with a satin laminate for longer life. Vinyl is used on display boards, information signage, hanging signs, fingerposts, entrance signs, pub signs, wheel covers to name but a few.

High-quality cast polyurethane is an extremely hard wearing material which is solid, rigid and does not corrode. It has a distinct advantage over cast metal in that the lettering is crisper and the motifs, logos and crests can be much more intricate. Once the sign has been cast and cleaned, it is then painted

These vintage style embossed and enameled nameplates are gorgeous. They are made using traditional methods developed over the last 120 years. Some of the dies for the embossing process are 80 years old! Each plate is handmade and then hand sprayed using stoving enamel. Excellent value name plates.
